Favourite Activities: The Toymakers Workshop

I joined the Royal Air Force in June 2000. After training, I spent the next 11 years on front line fast jet Squadrons. I started on 9(B) Sqn with Tornado aircraft, followed by 29(R) Sqn and 11 Sqn with Typhoon aircraft. I got to travel all over the world and visit places I would have never visited. I was then posted to RAF Cosford in 2012, where I used my experience to teach new recruits how to service and maintain aircraft. I was posted to DM Kineton, south Warwickshire in 2017.

STEM Master-General

I have been a STEM Ambassador for over 7 years. My STEM journey started in 2012 when I joined the Engineering Education Scheme (EES), mentoring sixth form students through a six month hands-on Engineering project. This was the catalyst for my work on a wide range of STEM projects in the years that followed. Passionate about informal learning, inclusion and collaboration I enjoy working with people from a wide range of organisations to develop new innovative STEM or STEAM (added Arts) projects. My other hobbies include eating cake and volunteering at Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park.

Most people know me as Diz, I’ve been in the RAF for over 10 years as a weapons technician where I have worked on the Tornado GR4, C130 Hercules, C17, Chinooks and a variety of ground-based weapons. I first got into a STEM career before the RAF after training as an electrician in college, but through a series of events ended up in the RAF a year after finishing college.

I have been a STEM ambassador for the past 2 years with the Kineton STEM team and prefer assisting with the more hands on based activities however I can turn my hand to most things. My other hobbies include walking my 2 dogs, Air Cadets Instructor and target shooting.

I’m known as Blakey, a Weapons Technician in the RAF, and have been for 6 years. Before I came to DM Kineton I was on 31 SQN, Working on Tornado fast jets (also known as the Norfolk Landshark, The Big Fin and the twin-man twin-fan pointy-thing). My RAF career, and my STEM ambassador role, allow me to work in a much more interesting range of environments.

In my spare time I enjoy playing drums and Loud Guitar - although the same can’t be said for my partner! My other hobby includes rock climbing, and I’ll probably climb anything and everything that will hurt my hands.

Six years as a Weapons Technician in the RAF has given me many unique experiences. I have worked on the Typhoon fast jet, a job where every day presented a new challenge, and sometimes, a new country! I’ve also worked in Explosive Storage Areas, Armouries and Tool Stores back in the UK.

Website Guru and Milkman

Thanks to the RAF, I’ve scaled the heights surrounding the capital Stanley in the East Falklands, I’ve cleaned up litter in wildlife habitats and beaches, and I’ve even flown over Loch Ness in a tiny Cessna! I joined the RAF STEM team shortly before I was posted to DM Kineton, and I’ve enjoyed meeting young people and encouraging their passions. My other hobbies include learning guitar and cycling.

My name's Jordan, but some people call me Faz. I’m an ex-Cadet and I’ve been in the RAF for four years as a self-confessed Weapons Geek aka Weapons Technician aka Armourer. My first posting was RAF Lossiemouth on a Typhoon squadron, where I maintained and loaded the Quick Reaction Alert aircraft for the North of the UK, and also helped provide air power around the world on Operations.

I hope to engage and give back to others some of the experiences that I have had, or would liked to have had, when I was younger.
